BUBBY STRIKES AGAIN

The lovely thing about being married to a writer, is the criticism that can occur when you use words incorrectly on your blog. Take for instance an email that I received from Bubby last week.....

"Thought you might appreciate me mentioning that you keep using then/than wrong on your blog so you can stop. At first, I thought it was a typo or a spellchecker making bad assumptions. But since you keep using it, I figure that it's really just you.
Anyway, you will type something like,
"I'd rather fight then switch."
It should be,
"I'd rather fight than switch."
Then is refers to a sequence in time. Than makes a comparison.
It's your business, either way. But, you were quoting me when you used on your current blog. I don't misuse those words.
Hate me if you will,
Love, Bubby"

Isn't that sweet? Bubby's always looking out for my best interests. I might have to invest in a Strunk & White's Elements of Style THAN to look like a stupid-ass on my blog again.

Thanks Bubby!

THE BUBBY FASCINATION

I'm all about making fun of Bubby. Sometimes I even blog about it for the world to see.

Take for instance, Bubby's obsession with green.....

Dirty clothes awaiting laundry. Freshly laundered shirts to hang up (long sleeve).

Freshly laundered shirts to hang up (short sleeve).
Count 'em. That's twelve shirts that I just washed that are green. Oh! And all of the shirts have cute little nerdy pockets to hold mechanical pencils while Bubby is performing his uber-geek job.

I don't have room to complain though. Everything in my closet is black.
If you looked in your closet, what predominant color would you see?

THE WEEKEND FROM HELL (part 1)

It started off like any other weekend...........................

Saturday night I went out with some friends and arrived home in the wee hours of the morning.

Bubby thought he would be the good husband that he is and let me sleep in. He set the kids up with a movie, fed them breakfast and dispensed their meds for the day.

That is when the terror started. The unthinkable happened. Bubby fed Leroy his sister Tori's pills by accident.

Let me preface this by saying that I have accidentally taken their medications and we have also dropped them on the floor and had to give two of our dogs hydrogen peroxide to make them immediately retch for extended lengths of time. But we have never, NEVER given a child the wrong medicine.

After a phone call to the pharmacist, Bubby was reassured that he did not need to use Ipecac on Leroy or rush to the emergency room. Leroy would just have to ride the pill out. We did however discover that Leroy needed to be watched 24/7 because he was acting odd (think knives and t-shirts and the destruction of them).

Bubby felt so bad. I felt bad. No one ever wants to give their kids a drug they aren't supposed to have. So Bubby decided that since we had to watch Leroy so closely, why not engage in a family activity? Leroy decided that we should go to the movies. Bubby also decided to treat him at his most favorite place on earth to eat.............

I hate this place. I despise the gluttony. I get nauseous when I witness HUGE people filling up their plates over and over and over again. I went in to labor here. Need I say more?

But the kids love it! They love being able to pick out their own food (no one is saying "eat your vegetables or else"). They love seeing all the fancy desserts and being able to pick out one (just one) of the plethora of sweets. It's a fun treat for them. So on special occasions I suck it up, put a smile on my face and trudge in.

As we loaded up our plates and sat down, Leroy started sinking further and further down in his chair. He asked if he could lay on the floor and take a nap. The accidental medicine was not serving him well. Bubby asked him if he still wanted to go to a movie and he quietly replied, "No." The other kids still wanted to eat their lunch and go to a movie so we called MeMa (who happened to be on that side of town) to come pick up Leroy and myself and take us home.

I told Bubby that Leroy and I would wait out in the parking lot for MeMa. Leroy was fading fast. If you look at the picture above. We were sitting on the sidewalk between where the blue truck and the brown SUV were. It was a warm, sunny day and Leroy promptly curled up in the fetal position on the sidewalk and fell asleep.

The next thing I see is a man and his daughter walking on the sidewalk towards me. I thought we might be taking up the whole sidewalk so I said, "Excuse me," and tried to move Leroy and myself out of the way.

Man: "Where's your bucket?"

Me: "What bucket?"

Man: "Don't you want some money? I have a couple of dollars for you if you need it."

This is when I burst out laughing and explained to the nice gentleman that we were just waiting for a ride.

But now it's got me thinking............

Is it really that easy to obtain money? Bring a kid along that's skinny and tired and people will feel sorry for you? I didn't even have a sign for christ's sake!

I'm actually thinking of trying the homeless thing for a day and then donating the money to a homeless shelter. I wonder....how kind are people? How rude are people? What kind of experiment like this will being homeless for a day teach me? Would I be jaded or more compassionate? Would I get arrested?

Have you ever been homeless or begged for money?

Stay tuned for part 2 of the Weekend from Hell saga. So much excitement I know. You can barely stand it.

ME LOVES ME SOME BUBBY

Two recent reasons why I will keep Bubby around:

I mentioned yesterday how much I hated the looks of my hair. Bubby replied, "I like it. It looks very European."
This morning Bubby said, "Your butt feels so much firmer than it used to be."

And really, even if both of his comments are big, fat lies.......I totally am up for some ego stroking.

NEW RULE

Here at our house, every Friday is "Family Night." It's basically like the Mormon version of "Family Home Evening." We usually watch a movie or play games.
Bubby has most recently been enjoying imposing NEW RULES on the rest of us. He obviously gets a kick out of his ability to boss people around.

Last Friday he came up with a NEW RULE. I think it stemmed from people shoving popcorn down their throats at the speed of light.

Bubby: "I have a NEW RULE......Everyone who eats popcorn must eat it with chopsticks."

The man is sick.

DEDICATION

Bubby's dog Mistie turned 16 years old on Halloween. This age is practically unheard of for a German Shepherd. Since the day we chose Mistie at the animal shelter, Mistie has dedicated her life to Bubby.

Bubby started running with her almost immediately. He would take her up into the foothills and run with her every day. She was still running with Bubby as of last year. Now her bones are sore and she can't run.

Did that stop Bubby? No.

Bubby took the jogging stroller and spent two weeks revising the stroller to accommodate Mistie. Now Bubby & Tori (and sometimes Christian on his bicycle), take two nights and 1 day a week to run along side of Mistie.

Their love runs deep.

ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE!

It's true.

Bubby surprised me with a trip to Vegas this weekend and reminded me of this very thing. If you ever see a show and you are a fan of the Beatles, this is THE ONE. The nostalgia, the grace and the utter beauty of the performance made me fall in love all over again.

Happy 17 year Anniversary Bubby!

WORDS OF LOVE

We all have our reasons why we love our mates. After 17 years of marriage and a gazillion swimming suits over the years, this is one of the things I love best about Bubby:

Every single time I buy a new swimming suit and Bubby see me model it for the 1st time, he stands there in awe - likes it's the first time he has ever seen me as says, "God! I think that is the best swimming suit you have ever picked out. You look great!"

Every. Single. Time.

How could a girl not love that?

RUN RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN

We have some runners in our family.....
If you haven't guessed....I'm not one of them. I couldn't run the 1/2 block to the corner without having an asthma attack. Running is boring. Really, if I stopped to think about it....all exercise is boring.

Here is a photo of Tori and Christian after completing the Children's Race. Look how thrilled Christian looks. Christian thinks he's a runner...but he's really not. Christian likes to pretend he's a runner. The only time I really saw Christian haul ass is when we lived in the Metropolis. There was a rumour that a really mean dog in the neighborhood ate a baby. One day, I walked outside just to see Christian rounding the corner running and screaming as fast as he could with the evil dog right at his heels!

No, my three runners are Tori, Bubby and our sweet dog Mistie. Mistie is 15 years old and can't wait to run with Bubby. It's what she has done her whole life and even though Mistie gets sore and sometimes can't even walk up our stairs after a run, she will live her last days running with Bubby.
Happy Love Thursday!

MY LOVELY LITTLE PUSSY

Eh hem.......minds out of the gutter please!

One of the best things about Bubby is his love for animals and children.

Quasimodo is Bubby's cat. They bonded from the beginning.......

We were at our local Humane Shelter with our son Ice-J sixteen years ago. Ice-J got to pick out a kitten to bring home. While touring the shelter, there was another kitten separated from all of the other cats. He was with the dogs! They were short on space so this kitten got to listen to barking. He climbed the bars and reached out his little kitty paws to entice us. That day, as Ice-J and I went to the front to fill out the paperwork on the kitten that Ice-J wanted, Bubby went to the back and grabbed the other kitten as well. We named him Quasimodo.

Quasimodo loves french fries and potato chips.
Quasimodo drools and drools when being pet. He purrs a loud motor.
Quasimodo loves to be vacuumed with the vacuum cleaner.
Quasimodo is gentle and loving and has taken all of the other cats under his wing.
Quasimodo has a spirit like Bubby.

Quasimodo also loves music and riding around on Bubby's shoulder. As soon as Bubby straps on his guitar, Quasi is right there to rest on his shoulders.
And I leave you with these pictures..............

Happy Love Thursday!
