TRY THIS QUESTIONNAIRE WITH YOUR TODDLER

Izzy has quite a vocabulary for only being 3 years of age. People are always astounded when they hear him speak. Often times he speaks like an older child.

Bubby attributes Izzy's intelligence to the "Mensa genes". True. Bubby is the smartest person I know and his IQ is off the charts. But I tend to attribute Izzy's vocabulary to my insistence on teaching Izzy sign language at an early age. Izzy was signing at 6 1/2 months. Izzy was communicating to us long before he could speak.

One of Izzy's favorite games is "Twenty Questions". I ask him questions and he responds to them. The funny thing about this game is that it is mood-dependent. Izzy can't snap out of the nap phase and if you try to keep him awake through nap time, there will be Hell to pay the rest of the afternoon until he finally sneaks away at about 5:00pm and zonks out. Then the child is up until midnight bouncing off the walls.

Have any of you experienced the in-between-nap-phase?

Anyway, I thought I would give you some sample questions/answers that I gave to Izzy over the past two days, and then those exact same questions/answers when he was sleep deprived. Ready?

HAPPY & WELL RESTED

Me: "What's your favorite color?"
Izzy: "Pink and orange."
Me: "What's your favorite time of the day?"
Izzy: "When Tori, Leroy and Christian get home from school."
Me: "Where's your favorite place to go?"
Izzy: "The Ocean."
Me: "What's your favorite thing at the ocean?"
Izzy: "Watching the Sea Lions play."
Me: "What is your favorite T.V. show?"
Izzy: "Wonder Pets."
Me "What do you like to do for fun?"
Izzy: "Playing with play-dough and playing Scooby-Doo on the Game Cube."
Me: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Izzy: "An Astronaut."
Me: "Who is your best friend?"
Izzy: "Clint."
Me "Who do you like to play with the most?"
Izzy: "Mommy."

NEEDS A NAP....TERRIBLY

Me: "What's your favorite color?"
Izzy: "Black."
Me: "What's your favorite time of the day."
Izzy: "Day? I don't like the Sun."
Me: "Where's your favorite place to go?"
Izzy: "The ocean."
Me: "What's your favorite thing at the ocean?"
Izzy: "Sharks and jellyfish."
Me: "What's your favorite T.V. show?
Izzy: "You know, the one with the monsters in it."
Me: "What do you like to do for fun?"
Izzy: "I don't like to do anything for fun. Having fun is for babies."
Me: "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
Izzy: "A bad guy."
Me: "Who is your best friend?"
Izzy: "Clint. But I've decided not to play with him anymore. He's naughty because when he's mad at you he spits."
Me: "Who do you like to play with the most?"
Izzy: "Mommy."

Well at least we have two constants. Izzy likes the ocean and he likes to play with me. Everything else is subjective to how he's feeling at the moment.

Oh, and I thought I would leave you with a lovely picture that really captures the essence of Izzy's intelligence.....
Yep. That's our future President of the United States of America people.

Priceless! I should try that on The Boy, although he doesn't take naps anymore. It would still be an interesting experiment!

What a cute picture!

My kids knows maybe one or two sign language. That's about it.

I'm multi-lingual, and what's sad is my kids don't speak my language. They do speak a little Ibrit, and can read it a little, but it's tragic they don't know more than 5 words of my dialect.

Oh yes. The no nap conversations can turn dark and uninviting.

Has Izzy started drawing comic book characters (the not-so-funny kind)? For some reason I picture him doing that. Or being a brooding painter. I'd love to see how he'd decorate Christmas cookies :)

Decorate Christmas cookies? The kid paints/pours all the toppings on and then licks it off and does it again. Won't even eat the cookie.

Well clearly he's already MUCH smarter than the current occupant of the Oval Office...
