WEATHERING THE STORM

I am really amazed at how people can live in extreme weather conditions. There are the people in the South who face Hurricanes on a regular basis and there are people in the Midwest who live in trailers right in the middle of an area called "The Tornado Belt". People in Seattle and Portland live with so much rain and my sister Kitty lives in the extreme heat of Arizona.

I am reading a book about a woman who grew up in some remote mountains near the Tibetan region. Listening to her describe how she was so cold in the mornings that she would put her hands and feet in the urine stream of Yaks to warm up. Yuk!

Yet here I am in a region of the Northwest that has four beautiful seasons. We rejoice in the fact that there is powdery snow in the Winter, flowers a bloom in the Spring, hot Summers and perfect sweater-weather Autumns. Not too much rain or wind. Really, it is so nice Way Down in Mayberry.

But today I'm pouting. It's rainy, cold and incredibly windy. It's the kind of day you want to turn on the fireplace, make yourself a cup of hot tea and read a book indefinitely.

Unfortunately, I have errands to run with a toddler in tow. But I guess if that's the extent of my weather woes, I should count my blessings.
