MY LIFE AS A PATHETIC LOSER

People keep asking me when I am going to write a new post. "Enough of the damn dog picture already", they say. Well here's your effing post...because, you know, so much is going on in my life.........

Against our children's wishes, and in a desperate attempt to save money.....we did the unthinkable. We rid ourselves of cable.

That means that we don't even have the basics. No three channels including PBS. No news. No Oprah. Nothing.

Instead we have chosen to get the Netflix instant movies. People that are not familiar with the "Roku" box, it is very simple. You basically have a choice of 100 + movies, documentaries or television series shows at the click of a button. This has somewhat appeased the little gremlins in our house. They can still watch "Wizard's of Waverly Place" or "Spongeboob" at their convenience.

But here lies the dilemma for me. I usually only watched t.v. when I was folding laundry or cooking. When I was watching, it was informational shows like the food channel or CNN. I wanted A LOT of information going in to my head. Because anyone who is a stay-at-home parent knows that if you don't keep the brain active, it turns to jello. Quoting "Zack and Cody" at a cocktail party doesn't go over well.

Now that my brain isn't being filled with knowledge, I find myself reading more and doing endless amounts of Sudoku puzzles. I also have become quite the old t.v. series buff (this is where the pathetic loser part comes in).

I am proud to say that I have never watched "American Idol", "24", "The Biggest Loser"or "Dancing with the Stars". Why should I watch those when I have access to this:

Dr. David Banner was hot.

So was Jethro Bodine.

And after so many of these old television series.......I feel quite often as if I am in.....

Now that I think about it, Rod Serling was pretty hot too.

That's pretty wicked that you could read my mind about the dog picture...

NO CABLE? Holy CRAP! I couldn't. I'm not strong enough. And I rely heavily on Noggin's ability to babysit my children.

You are so right about needing to constantly cram current news and information into our threatened SAHM brains. I'm not so sure it would go over well at Heath's office parties to do the Dancy Dance while yelling "Backpack!"

I'm afraid I'd have to get rid of the dogs, cat, kid, and husband before I could get rid of tv...

Is that bad?

What about Little House On The Prarie? I thought "Pa" was pretty doable.

Ohhh...I still love Little House on the Prairie! Nelly was such a B! Love her. And Mrs. Nelson.

Jenn & Candice....How could I have left out Pa? He was rugged and sensitive and totally hot!

Hi There - Do you guys have a digital converter box for your tv? We haven't had cable for years, but the converter box allowed us to go from 3 channels to like 7! Still not the same as cable, but it offers some variety.

Darlene - A digital converter box? That sounds so high-tech. I will have to ask Bubby about that one! Thanks for the advice....there maybe hope still!

Jodi- That's not bad. I want to get rid of cats, dogs, husband and kids with or without t.v. Ok. That was harsh...I'll keep the cats.

I keep forgetting to ask if you've seen "Mr. Ed"........

The gov is giving coupons for the digital converter boxes, I believe.

might i suggest hitting up www.wbur.org (or your local version thereof) and streaming all the world's news to your hearts desire over ye innernets?

either that or, you know, whiskey.

Here's some information about the digital conversion. The coupon should be there too.

Ok - first it was Bill Bixby who played David Banner in The Hulk. Second - How about The Addams Family and My Three Sons? I always thought Gomez had a certain savoire faire.......
