LEARNING EMPATHY

The child-rearing experts say that children are intrinsically selfish. I would have to agree with that. Teaching our kids that there is a bigger world out there than Way Down In Mayberry can be a challenge sometimes.

The child-rearing experts also say that around the age of three, children begin to show empathy for others. To be honest, I haven't seen a lot of that in Izzy. The poor child has to fight for attention with his other siblings and household duties that occur on a daily basis. Izzy is all about "me, me me!"

So I have to say Izzy's response surprised me the other day when I curiously questioned what he was doing.......

The fish must get really bored Mommy. I'm giving them something to look at!

It's a start........

It's a great start! The experts do say that fish have feelings too, you know...

That is hysterical! I have to say the fish all seem to be looking that way.

Can fish see that far?

I love that picture! Goldfish are so cheery the way they are happy to see anything. My four year old is delighted to see Sir Topemhat in the lineup. Izzy is well on his way ...

I love the words from the littles.

As far as I know, kids learn empathy by being shown empathy.

So you must be doing the right thing.

That is wonderful!

My son told me one time that he's giving the fishes their exercise when I caught him swirling his hands in the water. He had gained weight and we took him walking for two miles. He's 5.
