PET PEEVE #121

Koolaid..............

I don't like it. I don't want it in my house. Images of the early 7o's commercial with that creepy pitcher of Koolaid guy breaking through the Styrofoam bricks gives me the weebie-jeebies.

When Ice-J was younger, the child always craved Koolaid (and anything sweet to drink) and I always joyfully told him "No." We then compromised when Ice-J became a teenager and I reluctantly allowed it in the house, but he was going to have to buy it with his allowance money. I wanted no part of supporting the Koolaid company.

Remember the blog last week about Bubby scoring points with the kids big-time with a simple $1 box of brownies? Well this takes the cake people..........

Despite my knowing disdain for Koolaid, Bubby took Leroy to the grocery store last week. Our grocery store has 10 for $10 deals. You got it! Bubby and Leroy came home with not just one, but 10 containers of Koolaid! Normally, I would just throw nine of them away when the kids were at school, and make the one container last all summer. But Leroy had other plans............Here is a photograph of a complex diagram of Koolaid that Leroy has constructed. In this diagram, it states what flavor and in what order we will drink the Koolaid and how long it should take blah blah blah blah blah.

This is Leroy's latest and greatest hyper-focus of the week. The child can't wait to come home from school and try a new flavor. Which brings me to how I have dealt with the Koolaid conundrum. I don't deal with it. I pretend that Koolaid is the "new water." I pretend I'm a witch rubbing her hands next to a cauldron of water, cackling and stirring the mass of sugary concoction:

"Eeee hee heee! Drink up my little Pretties! Mommy wants to fatten you up and pump lots of sugar into those little veins of yours."

I have realized that the faster I make the Koolaid, the faster it will be consumed. In fact, I have learned that if I let the kids make the Koolaid, they don't follow the directions and measure correctly. This allows the Koolaid to be consumed in record time because the children are adding triple the amount of Koolaid to the water!

I can cheerfully say that when it's gone......IT'S GONE!
Well......um......until of course Bubby sees another 10 for $10 deal at the grocery store.

Have you had the letter carrier's food drive in Mayberry yet? If not, "lose" x number of cans of that nasty kool-aid to the food bank.
